A 24-year-old man is set to appear in the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon, facing charges related to fraud. He has been charged with one count of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception.
The case stems from an investigation by the Fiji Police Mpaisa task force, which uncovered that on February 9, 2024, the accused reportedly misled a victim into paying $475 for car parts that he advertised on Facebook. Following the transaction, the accused allegedly severed all communication with the victim, leaving them without the purchased item.
The man, who resides in Makoi, will now face legal repercussions for his actions, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and caution when engaging in online transactions.
This incident serves as a reminder for consumers to carefully verify the legitimacy of sellers and their offerings on platforms like Facebook. By doing so, individuals can protect themselves from potential scams and fraudulent activities. It is encouraging to see law enforcement actively addressing such issues to enhance public safety in online marketplaces.
