Netani Kepa has made history in his family by becoming the head boy of Natabua High School, an accomplishment he considers a great honor and a proud moment. In an exclusive interview, Kepa expressed his commitment to lead with passion, integrity, and humility, aiming to serve both his peers and the school community effectively.
Kepa’s aspirations do not stop at his current role; he plans to pursue marine studies at the University of the South Pacific next year, with dreams of becoming a marine biologist. “I’m planning to study marine science,” he shared enthusiastically.
His counterpart, head girl Shreya Shail, also emphasized a unique perspective on leadership, stating it transcends mere authority; it’s about inspiring and uplifting others. “Leadership is about responsibility and standing beside others,” she remarked, underlining her hopes to foster an inclusive environment where every student feels valued. Shail’s father, Salen Kumar, expressed pride in witnessing his daughter achieve this honor, being a former student of Natabua himself.
At the induction ceremony, Education Minister Aseri Radrodro reminded the new prefects that their role goes beyond wearing the badge; it embodies the school values and a responsibility toward their peers. “Set a positive example for your peers, as you are the future leaders of both the school and Fiji,” he highlighted.
This narrative reflects a larger trend among young leaders across Fiji, as seen in similar stories of students dedicated to fostering positive change in their schools. Through Kepa and Shail’s leadership, there is a renewed sense of hope that the youth can drive meaningful advancements in their educational environments.
These young leaders illustrate the potential for transformative change when passion and community support intertwine—an encouraging sign for the future of education in Fiji.
