Thirteen-year-old Immanuel Petero Saunivalu has been named the head boy of Stella Marist Primary School, taking on a role he approaches with great enthusiasm and seriousness. Immanuel, who comes from Namosi Koro and has familial ties to Nacamaki Village on Koro Island, expressed heartfelt gratitude for this leadership opportunity.
“It is an honor and a responsibility I will take seriously. I look forward to contributing to my school community, leading initiatives, and upholding the school’s values,” stated Immanuel. He emphasized the importance of strong communication, active listening, and a clear vision as essential traits of an effective leader.
Immanuel aims to set an example for his classmates, encouraging them to pursue academic and personal growth. “My goal this year is to increase my love for God, so He can guide me in being a blessing to others. I want to inspire and motivate my peers to strive for excellence while embracing the core values of our school, which include family spirit, simplicity, love of work, and presence,” he added.
Managing the balance between leadership duties and academic responsibilities is something Immanuel is keenly aware of. He plans to stay organized, reflect on his progress, and take time for recreational activities, particularly by playing rugby with family and friends. “Breaks are crucial for me. During these times, I train for rugby and spend time with my family. My mum, in particular, has always been there to guide me,” he shared.
His mother, Mere Naulu, expressed immense pride in her son’s new role, stating, “It is both humbling and gratifying. I have mixed feelings of pride and confidence in his ability to lead.” She acknowledged that Immanuel’s leadership traits have been evident from a young age, with his natural ability to motivate those around him. As a supportive mother, she commits to being his biggest cheerleader, helping him strengthen his faith and maintain open lines of communication.
Stella Marist Primary School, with a student body of 321, is sure to benefit from Immanuel’s leadership as he strives to be a source of guidance and support for his classmates, ready to share in both their successes and challenges.
This story is a reminder that young leaders, like Immanuel, can inspire their communities and foster an environment of hope and encouragement. Through dedication and commitment, they pave the way for a brighter future, building on the foundational values that help shape not just individuals, but also the collective spirit of their school community.
