Young Kulas Prepare for Historic World Cup Clash Against Brazil

With extensive preparation completed, the Digicel Fiji Young Kulas are close to a pivotal moment, according to Mohammed Yusuf, chief executive of the Fiji Football Association. The young women’s team is set to play Brazil at Estadio Atanasio Girardot in Medellín, Colombia, marking their historic participation as the first Fiji women’s team in a FIFA Women’s World Cup at any level.

Yusuf highlights the team’s rigorous training, which included both local practice sessions and international friendlies against teams like Costa Rica and Morocco. “We have conducted local training sessions as well as international friendlies against higher-ranked teams, which adds to our experience,” Yusuf stated. He believes this preparation has provided the Young Kulas with crucial experience leading into their World Cup debut against Brazil.

Yusuf praises the team’s preparedness on multiple fronts—physically, mentally, and spiritually—and he expresses faith in their ability to perform well and bring pride to Fiji by taking it one game at a time. “It’s wonderful to see the team fully prepared. We will approach each game individually, and I am confident the girls will make our country proud,” he said.

Although they face a daunting Group B with formidable opponents like France, Canada, and Brazil, the Young Kulas are ready to embrace the challenge. Yusuf acknowledges head coach Angeline Chua for her commitment to the team and trusts her in selecting the strongest squad for the World Cup. The team benefits from the inclusion of three overseas players, notably the talented 15-year-old Aliana Vakaloloma, which contributes valuable experience.

Yusuf urges fans to show their unwavering support as the Young Kulas strive to make history in their inaugural World Cup match. The team is set to face Brazil today at 11 a.m.
