Young Kulas Learn Tough Lessons Ahead of World Cup Showdown

The Digicel Fiji Young Kulas faced a significant challenge in their friendly match against Costa Rica, suffering a 0-2 defeat yesterday. This match was crucial in their preparations for the upcoming FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, as it provided important insights ahead of the global tournament set to begin next week.

From the onset, both teams displayed a competitive spirit. However, Costa Rica, currently ranked 42nd in the world, gradually seized control of the game and netted two goals to secure their victory.

Head coach Angeline Chua highlighted the importance of this match in their preparation strategy. “Facing Costa Rica allowed us to adapt to a different playing style and identify areas for improvement before the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup next week,” Chua stated. “Despite the outcome, the exposure to top-tier opposition will greatly benefit our players in their development.”

In a similar scenario, Morocco, who will be the next opponent for Fiji, also endured a 2-0 loss against Costa Rica last week. This sets the stage for an important match-up between the Young Kulas and Morocco, with both teams eager to recover from their recent defeats and enhance their tactics.

The Young Kulas plan to thoroughly analyze the match with the players to glean valuable lessons. They are scheduled to take on Morocco, ranked 59th in the world, in another friendly match today. Fiji’s pool at the World Cup includes France, Brazil, and Canada.
