Fiji’s Under-19 women’s football team, known as the Fiji Young Kulas, has commenced their training camp at the Fiji Football Association Academy in Vatuwaqa. This preparation is critical as they gear up for major regional and global competitions later this year, where the stakes are notably high.

Head coach Angeline Chua emphasized the significance of this camp for the players to foster teamwork, align with the coaching philosophy, and enhance their understanding of crucial game strategies. “This camp provides an opportunity for players to bond and undergo rigorous training sessions designed to improve their fitness levels, technical abilities, and mental preparedness,” Chua stated.

The Young Kulas face a challenging road ahead as they have been placed in Group A of the OFC Under-19 Women’s Championship, competing against Samoa, the Cook Islands, and the winner of the upcoming qualifying tournament, scheduled for March 7-13 in Tonga. Meanwhile, Group B will feature defending champions New Zealand, hosts Tahiti, New Caledonia, and Vanuatu.

The championship, set to take place in Tahiti from September 21 to October 4, 2025, represents a crucial opportunity for these young athletes to showcase their talents on an international stage. This event is not only significant for the players but also reflects the burgeoning interest and investment in women’s football within the Oceania region.

As the Fiji Young Kulas prepare for this competitive landscape, their journey embodies hope and promise for the future of women’s sports in the region. The high level of anticipation surrounding this championship is a testament to the growing commitment to developing female athletic talent, potentially paving the way for the next generation of football stars.
