Fiji Football chief executive Mohammed Yusuf is optimistic about the Young Kulas’ potential to reach the finals of the OFC Girls Under-16 Championship. The team embarked on their journey to Samoa, where they will play their first match against Tahiti this Friday at 10 AM. This championship is significant, as the top two teams will earn automatic qualification to the FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup set to take place in Morocco next year.

Yusuf also extended his gratitude to the players’ parents for their unwavering support, highlighting their crucial role in ensuring the girls balance sports with education. He stated, “To the parents and family, we are totally in debt to you. You trusted us to ensure that these girls don’t miss out on education and that they play to the best of their talent to represent our proud nation, Fiji.”

Following their opening match against Tahiti, the Young Kulas will face the hosts next Monday at 2 PM, and then they will go up against New Caledonia the following Thursday at 10 AM. The championship play-offs are scheduled to commence on August 11th, marking an exciting period for the team as they strive for success on an international stage.

This ongoing commitment and preparation by the Young Kulas are reminiscent of the performances seen from other Fiji teams, like the Junior Kulas, who recently showcased their determination and readiness for the OFC Under-16 Women’s Championship. The hope for both teams is to create history, inspire future generations of female athletes in Fiji, and establish a strong presence in women’s football on the world stage.
