Young Golfer Shines in First Fiji Open Experience

Isireli Digitaki, a Year nine student at Nabua Secondary School, expressed gratitude for his experience at the recent Fiji Golf Open. He competed in the junior category at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa last Saturday.

“This was my first time participating in the Fiji Golf Open, and I’m pleased with my scores,” Digitaki shared. He noted that the pressure of the tournament led to some challenging swings that affected his performance.

He was particularly happy to compete alongside his uncles and older siblings, all of whom won prizes including electrical appliances. “We can’t afford some of these items, but winning them is a source of pride for us,” he added.

Digitaki also mentioned the physical challenge of carrying his golf bag, which contributed to his fatigue during the tournament. He recognizes the need to better manage pressure to enhance his performance in future competitions.

“I want to thank God for giving me the strength to compete in this three-day tournament,” he stated. He also expressed appreciation to Complete Insurance Services for sponsoring his golf membership.

“Without their support, I wouldn’t have been able to participate,” Digitaki noted. He extended his thanks to Arvin Lal and Taitusi Tuivuci for helping him and other juniors take part in the tournament, as well as to the Fiji Professional Golfers Association (PGA) for sponsoring ten juniors with free entry.

“Many juniors do not have the means to pay the entry fee, so this support is invaluable,” he said. He concluded by thanking his family and teachers for their encouragement and guidance throughout the tournament.
