Fulori Diraboki, a student at Dravo District School, has emerged as a beacon of inspiration through her commitment and dedication to her mother, who has been ill for the past four years. Her journey to recognition began when she was awarded the title of dux at her school, celebrating her academic achievements in the face of significant personal challenges.
Recently, Fulori was honored at the Fiji Children’s Award ceremony, receiving accolades for her remarkable personal development and ability to thrive despite adversity. During the event, which was attended by Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya and her assistant Sashi Kiran, Fulori expressed her gratitude for the recognition, attributing her strength to divine support and the love for her mother.
At just 13 years old, Fulori has faced a multitude of responsibilities at home, stepping up to care for her bedridden mother, Timaleti Droceva. Due to a spinal condition that confines her to bed, Timaleti has relied heavily on Fulori, who manages daily tasks like bathing, cooking, and cleaning, all while pursuing her education diligently.
Fulori’s commitment to academics has not wavered despite her challenging circumstances. Her proactive approach to learning, such as attending extra classes and seeking help from classmates, has enabled her to excel, especially in subjects like math, where she initially struggled. Her mother played a significant role in her educational pursuits, encouraging her to work through past exam papers together.
