Viliame Turagaiviu, a young athlete from Ovalau living in Hong Kong, had a dream come true today as he stepped onto the field at Kai Tak Stadium as a ball boy during the Youth Rugby match at the Hong Kong 7s. His presence at the event brought excitement, particularly as he witnessed the Fiji Airways men’s and women’s 7s teams competing for a spot in the cup quarter-finals.

For Turagaiviu, the experience of being a ball boy was an immense honor. “It’s kind of an honour to me to be a ball boy,” he shared, expressing his eagerness to engage with the Fiji fans who filled the stands. He added, “It feels really good, the weather is really nice and cool today, and it’s a really nice atmosphere over here.”

This event emphasizes how youth participation in sports like rugby helps build dreams and aspirations among young athletes in Fiji. Similar to other young players such as Manoa Vakatawabai and Sikeli Basiyalo, who are also striving for national representation, Turagaiviu’s involvement highlights the sense of community and support that surrounds rugby in Fiji, fostering a future generation of talent.

As the Hong Kong 7s continues, it provides a vibrant atmosphere not only for established players but also for budding athletes like Turagaiviu, instilling a sense of hope and ambition for future endeavors in rugby. The unwavering support from fans and the energy of events like this ensure that the spirit of Fijian rugby remains strong and inspiring.
