In the recent school semester, Year 3 students from International School Suva demonstrated remarkable kindness towards their community, embodying the principles of their Unit of Inquiry, which emphasizes how individuals respond to communal needs.
The students kicked off their charitable activities in Term 3 with a cookie sale that successfully raised funds for the Suva Sexual Reproductive Health Clinic, which was followed by a PE-thon aimed at supporting the National Youth Band. This initiative helped them connect with pressing community needs and align their efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
Grouping by shared passions, the students actively researched community challenges and brainstormed impactful solutions. Their collective efforts culminated in a vibrant fundraising event featuring lemonade and popcorn stands, a clothes drive, and cupcakes, ice cream, and cookie sales. Altogether, they raised an impressive $1,101.95.
With the funds raised, the students made thoughtful contributions to various organizations, including the AWANA After-School Activity Club, Samabula Old People’s Home, Homes of Hope, St. Christopher’s Home, Lomary Primary School, the SPCA, and the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Heart Hospital, alongside supporting early childhood education initiatives.
