The Fiji Sports Council Athletics camp is well underway, two weeks into its program aimed at nurturing the next generation of sports talent. Despite the festive cheer from Christmas and New Year’s celebrations approaching, the young athletes are exhibiting remarkable commitment to their training and skill development.

Taking place at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva and running until January 21, the camp seeks to cultivate dedicated, skilled, and mentally resilient athletes. National athletics coach Pio Qerewaqa commended the children’s focus, emphasizing their determination to improve amidst numerous holiday distractions.

These young participants are dedicated to refining their athletic techniques and enhancing their mental toughness. Coach Qerewaqa also underscored the vital support role parents play in their children’s athletic journey. “It’s not just about bringing them to training; it involves being actively engaged in their growth and development,” he said. The camp offers sessions for both parents and coaches, covering fundamental topics like nutrition, recovery, and providing emotional support for young athletes.

Parental involvement is crucial, according to Qerewaqa, as it reinforces children’s confidence and motivation. As the camp progresses into its final three weeks, he encourages families to maintain this supportive involvement to help solidify the foundation for future successes.

The camp serves as an inspiring reminder that focus, dedication, and a supportive environment are essential components in the pursuit of excellence both in sports and in life.

This initiative highlights the importance of perseverance and community support in nurturing young talent, ensuring that they are not just athletes but well-rounded individuals prepared for future challenges.
