At the 2025 Northern Women Expo in Labasa, a remarkable young entrepreneur, 17-year-old Litia Abigail from the remote island of Cikobia, is captivating attendees with her innovative approach to art. Abigail is transforming discarded cardboard into intricate pieces that honor Pacific identity and marine life. Her booth has quickly become one of the expo’s highlights, celebrated for its beauty and the significant environmental message it conveys.

Abigail’s passion for marine biology deeply informs her artwork. She views her creations as more than mere decorations; they are narratives inspired by her profound admiration for the Pacific Ocean. “The Pacific just gives a big inspiration to me,” Abigail stated, expressing how it fuels her creativity.

Initially crafting these pieces for personal use, Abigail’s parents encouraged her to explore selling them, leading her to participate in the expo for the first time. She hopes that her journey will inspire other young women to recognize and embrace their talents, encouraging them to support their families and positively impact their communities.

The 2025 Northern Women’s Expo continues to showcase the diversity of talent among women, similar to previous events that have highlighted the creativity and sustainability efforts of female entrepreneurs, such as the work of artisans using local materials. The empowerment witnessed at such expos plays a crucial role in uplifting women, promoting economic independence, and highlighting the significance of local craftsmanship.

The event, which concludes this Friday, not only provides a platform for Abigail but also reinforces the potential for innovation and creativity to foster community ties and inspire future generations.
