Zane Yoshida, the founder of Calmer Co, previously known as Fiji Kava, has been appointed as the 15th president of the Australia Fiji Business Council (AFBC). In his new role, Yoshida will focus on enhancing trade, investment, and cultural connections between Australia and Fiji.

Having been a member of the executive council since 2019 and serving as vice president since 2022, Yoshida brings a wealth of experience to his new position. The Council believes his background will be instrumental in fostering collaborations and uncovering new business opportunities for both nations.

Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Yoshida stated, “I am honored to have been elected president of the Australia Fiji Business Council. This position represents a wonderful opportunity to enhance the business connections between our two nations.” He emphasized his commitment to working closely with fellow council members to encourage sustainable growth and position both Australia and Fiji as attractive business locations.

Yoshida also recognized his predecessor, Allison Haworth West, who led the council for five years. He commended her leadership during challenging times while managing her own business.

During the annual general meeting (AGM) held on November 21, Emma Low (Westpac Banking MD Pacific) and David Gibson (Gibson Freight MD) were elected as vice presidents, with Gibson also taking on the role of treasurer. Other new executive committee members include Philip Bird from Marine and Civil Maintenance Pty Ltd, Jeremy Grennell of Pacific Trade Invest, and Vosawale Toganivalu-Tamani from ANZ Banking Pacific. Existing members include Ms. West, Steve Hillyard, Chanh Lovan, Dakshesh Patel, and Sam Raciti.

The Australia Fiji Business Council serves as an independent association that connects businesses in Australia with interests in Fiji, aiming to engage with both governments to tackle trade and investment challenges effectively.

This leadership change presents a promising opportunity for the Australia-Fiji relationship, as Yoshida’s vision to advance business ties could spur economic growth and collaboration between the two nations.

In summary, Zane Yoshida’s election as president marks a new chapter for the Australia Fiji Business Council, poised to enhance business relations and bring fresh initiatives that could benefit both countries.
