Fiji’s long-distance running star, Yeshnil Karan, along with his team, secured second place at the Namosi Challenge, renowned as “Fiji’s Toughest Race,” which took place in the Namosi highlands on Saturday.
Karan led his team in the 10km race and finished at the top for his squad. Nevertheless, the team overall ranked second due to delays experienced by other members.
This marked Karan’s debut in the Namosi marathon, and he shared his enthusiasm about competing alongside his coach, Isireli Naikelekelevesi.
Although his team did not clinch the victory, Karan described the experience as exhilarating, appreciating the unique challenge presented by the mountainous terrain, even in the rainy weather.
“This is my first ever Namosi marathon where I participated in the 10km team race, and it’s great to see my coach, Isireli Kelekelevesi, also joining this race,” Karan stated. “I came first for my team, but we finished second overall. Despite that, it was an amazing race.”
He praised the thrilling challenge posed by the hills and mountains, highlighting the stunning scenery, even in the rain.
Reflecting on the stiff competition, Karan acknowledged the difficulty of the hilly course while expressing pride in his performance for the team.
He extended his thanks to the event organizers, the Suva marathon, and the sponsors for their support. Additionally, Karan expressed gratitude toward his coach and family for their unwavering encouragement.
Taking a break from his regular training, Karan viewed the Namosi Challenge as a way to test his skills while having fun. He valued the strong turnout at the event, relishing the opportunity to experience the breathtaking highland views while pushing his limits.
