The Suva Bowling Club hosted the Mixed Trips Bowling Competition on Saturday, sponsored by Prasad’s Timber Supplies. This event marked the final tournament of the year for the club, providing a festive and competitive end to a successful season for its bowlers.

Ramesh Chand, the vice-president of the bowling club, shared that the competition was open to all local businesses and bowlers, creating an inclusive atmosphere. A total of 36 participants formed 12 teams of three players each, showcasing their skills on the greens. Noteworthy competitor Litia Tikoisuva, a seasoned women’s bowler, added to the event’s prestige.

Chand emphasized that despite the competition’s competitive nature, it was also a social occasion, especially with all national events having concluded for the year. He noted the strong participation from both business representatives and regular bowlers, stating, “Most of the people playing are from business houses and regular bowlers; they understand the bowls and the competition is tough. And when there’s prize money and competition, it’s good for bowls.”

The weather initially posed a challenge, delaying the competition until shortly after midday when conditions improved. Chand expressed gratitude towards Prasad’s Timber Supplies Limited for their continued support over the past five to six years. He highlighted their significant contribution to the promotion of bowling in Fiji and the development of the sport at the Suva Bowling Club.

Looking ahead, Chand expressed optimism for the future, indicating that this year had been excellent for the club, and he eagerly anticipates what next year will bring for its members and the bowling community.
