The Caginitoba men’s sevens rugby team has made their third appearance at the Mick’s Fiji Tours & Transfers Vatulele 7s tournament, held on the island of Vatulele. This year, 24 teams are competing in the tournament, which kicked off yesterday at the Vatulele District School grounds and is set to conclude today.
Team manager Navoliyani Draunimasi shared insights into the team’s journey, noting their arrival on the island on Wednesday afternoon. He emphasized the preparation efforts preceding the tournament, which included training under a single coach from the Yasawa 7s team who lived in the village. According to Draunimasi, their limited training resources were a challenge, but the dedication of their coach helped fill that gap.
With many young players on the roster, Draunimasi expressed optimism about the tournament experience contributing to their development in rugby. “This is their third time taking part and they are quite young. I believe when they participate in more tournaments, their level of play will increase,” he stated.
He also took the opportunity to extend gratitude to the team’s family, supporters, and sponsors from abroad, as well as the Momo na Ratu na Tui Naviti for their continuous support.
This tournament not only provides valuable exposure for the players but also enhances their skills and teamwork, important elements for their growth in the sport. As these young athletes gain experience, they cultivate the potential to make significant strides in their rugby careers.
In summary, the Caginitoba men’s sevens rugby team’s participation in the Vatulele 7s highlights the importance of grassroots development in sports, showcasing how local talent can rise through exposure and commitment. Their journey serves as an inspiring reminder that with support and opportunities, young athletes can thrive and achieve their dreams.
