The Caginitoba men’s sevens rugby team has made their way to Vatulele for the Mick’s Fiji Tours & Transfers Vatulele 7s tournament, marking their third appearance as a team from Soso, Naviti, Yasawa. This year, the tournament features 24 teams and kicked off yesterday at the Vatulele District School grounds, with events set to conclude today.
In a recent interview, team manager Navoliyani Draunimasi discussed the journey of the team, emphasizing the focused preparation that took place leading up to this important event. With only one trainer available in the Yasawa region, the team has been dedicated to their training, thanks to the consistent efforts of their coach.
Draunimasi noted that the team consists of relatively new and young players. He expressed optimism that participating in this competition would enhance their understanding and skills in rugby: “I believe that as they take part in more tournaments, their level of play will improve.”
He also expressed gratitude towards their families and supporters from Yasawa, along with international sponsors and the Momo na Ratu na Tui Naviti, for their unwavering encouragement.
As the young players gain valuable exposure at this tournament, it is a positive opportunity for their growth both as athletes and individuals. This experience can help them develop teamwork qualities and a deeper understanding of rugby, potentially paving the way for future successes in their sporting endeavors.
