The Yasawa district team is gearing up for the two-day Fiji Primary Schools Tuckers Ice Cream Games, which kick off today at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. This exciting event will host approximately 2,000 athletes representing 21 districts from across the nation.

Isireli Koroituku, the jump coach for the Yasawa team, made it clear that their goal extends beyond just participation; they aim to bring home medals. The team comprises 105 talented athletes hailing from eight different schools in the Yasawa district, all of whom have come together to compete after thorough preparations.

Reflecting on their previous competition, Koroituku mentioned that last year’s focus was more on exposure for the athletes. In contrast, this year, the team is fully committed to securing victories. He acknowledged the challenges faced in getting to the games, particularly regarding accommodation, but remained optimistic after successfully arranging lodging just days before the competition.

To support their participation, the Yasawa team engaged in various fundraising activities, including selling root crops, kava barrels, and hosting curry nights. Koroituku expressed his deep appreciation for the overwhelming support received from the Yasawa community, the Tikina regions, and various shareholders. Such community backing has been instrumental in making their journey possible.

This tournament is also a significant opportunity for many of the athletes, most of whom are visiting Suva for the first time. It has proven to be an enlightening experience for them. Other districts in the Western Division are also actively participating, with 718 athletes, the Northern region contributing 635, and the Central and Eastern divisions sending 597 competitors.

In summary, the Yasawa district is poised for a competitive and enriching experience at the Fiji Primary Schools Tuckers Ice Cream Games. With strong community support and a desire for achievement, the team embodies the spirit of determination and hope, looking forward to making memorable moments during this prestigious event.

This event not only showcases athletic talent but also fosters camaraderie and healthy competition among young athletes, inspiring a new generation to strive for success.
