Yasawa Saints staged a remarkable comeback to overcome the favored Lami Steelers with a score of 28-14 in the semi-finals of the FNRLW (Fiji National Rugby League Women) Championship held at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori on Saturday.
Saints captain Sereana Nasau expressed her awareness of the challenging nature of the match, emphasizing their determination to secure a win and reach the final. Overwhelmed with emotion, she struggled to hold back tears as the final buzzer sounded.
“Full credit to the players and supporters who came out in large numbers,” Nasau remarked. “We anticipated a tough battle in the second half while playing catch-up rugby, but we had to push through.”
Nasau highlighted that their journey is not yet complete, as they stand just one step away from making history. “This will be my first experience playing in a rugby league final, and it will be a moment I will treasure,” she added.
Despite the victory, Nasau acknowledged that there is room for improvement within the team. “We need to focus on some key areas as we prepare for the final. But for now, we will celebrate this win before gearing up for our next match,” she stated.
The Yasawa Saints showcased formidable defense and offense throughout the game. “This win is dedicated to everyone who has supported us along this journey. We could not have achieved this without the hard work, dedication, and belief of our entire team and our loyal fans,” she said.
The Saints are set to compete against the Police Sharks in the upcoming FNRLW Championship final.
