Yasawa Saints Stage Stunning Comeback to Reach Championship Final

Yasawa Saints staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the favored Lami Steelers 28-14 in the semi-finals of the Fiji National Rugby League Women (FNRLW) Championship on Saturday at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.

Captain Sereana Nasau expressed the team’s determination, acknowledging the tough challenge ahead but emphasizing their goal to reach the final. Overcome with emotion, she shed tears as the final whistle blew.

“Credit goes to the players and supporters who came out in numbers,” said Nasau. “We anticipated a difficult second half where we needed to play catch-up rugby, but we were prepared to do so.”

Nasau highlighted that the team is not finished yet and is just one step away from making history. “This will be my first experience in a rugby league final, and it’s a moment I will cherish,” she noted.

While celebrating the victory, she mentioned there are still areas that need improvement. “We will take time to enjoy this win today but will also focus on preparing for the final,” she added.

The Yasawa Saints demonstrated a strong performance in both defense and attack throughout the match.

“This win is dedicated to everyone who has supported us on this journey. We couldn’t have achieved this without the hard work, dedication, and belief from our entire team and loyal supporters,” she stated.

The Saints are set to face the Police Sharks in the upcoming FNRLW Championship final.
