Yasawa Saints staged a comeback to defeat the favored Lami Steelers 28-14 in the semi-finals of the FNRLW (Fiji National Rugby League Women) Championship held at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori on Saturday.
Team captain Sereana Nasau expressed her awareness of the challenging game ahead but emphasized their determination to win and reach the final. The former Fiji Pearls netballer was emotional as she celebrated the victory at the final whistle.
“Credit goes to the players and supporters who turned out in great numbers,” Nasau stated. She acknowledged the difficulty of playing catch-up rugby in the second half but noted that the team was prepared to meet the challenge.
Nasau highlighted that the journey is not yet over, with the team just one step away from making history. “This will be my first experience playing in a rugby league final, and it will be a memorable moment,” she added.
Despite the win, Nasau recognized the need for the team to improve in certain areas. “There are key aspects we need to work on. But for now, we will celebrate this victory and focus on preparing for the final,” she remarked.
The Yasawa Saints displayed strong defense and attack throughout the match. “This victory is for everyone who has supported us along the way. We could not have achieved this without the effort, dedication, and belief of our entire team and our loyal supporters,” she concluded.
The Saints will next face the Police Sharks in the championship final.
