Yasawa Saints staged a remarkable comeback to beat the favored Lami Steelers 28-14 in the semi-finals of the Fiji National Rugby League Women’s Championship at Nausori’s Ratu Cakobau Park on Saturday.
Captain Sereana Nasau expressed her emotional joy after the match, acknowledging the anticipated challenge and the team’s commitment to reaching the final. The former netball player was visibly moved at the end of the game, stating, “Credit to the players and supporters who came out in numbers.”
Nasau noted the team’s resilience, particularly during the second half, where they had to overcome a deficit. “We knew it was going to be tough to play catch-up rugby in the second half but we had to,” she remarked. Looking ahead, she indicated the team’s aspirations, saying, “We are one step away from creating history.”
This will be Nasau’s first experience in a rugby league final, a moment she is eager to cherish. Despite the victory, she acknowledged areas for improvement. “There are some key areas in which we will have to work on. But we will savor this win today and prepare for the final,” she added.
The Yasawa Saints demonstrated strength both in defense and attack throughout the match. Nasau dedicated the victory to their supporters, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and belief in achieving their success.
