Yasawa Saints staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the heavily favored Lami Steelers 28-14 in the semi-finals of the Fiji National Rugby League Women (FNRLW) Championship, held at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori on Saturday.
Team captain Sereana Nasau acknowledged the challenging nature of the match but emphasized their unwavering goal to reach the final. The former Fiji Pearls netball player could not contain her emotions as the final buzzer sounded.
“Thanks to the players and the strong support from our fans,” Nasau expressed. “We were aware that playing catch-up rugby in the second half would be tough, but we committed to it.”
Nasau highlighted that the team is determined to seize the opportunity, as they stand just one step away from making history. “This will be my first time playing in a rugby league final, and it is a moment I will cherish,” she remarked.
Despite their victory, she noted that there are areas where the team can improve. “There are crucial aspects we need to refine. However, we will enjoy this win and focus on preparing for the final,” she stated.
Throughout the match, the Saints displayed an unyielding defense and sharp attack. Nasau dedicated the win to all those who have supported the team along their journey. “We achieved this thanks to the hard work, dedication, and belief of our entire team and our loyal supporters,” she said.
Yasawa Saints will now prepare to face the Police Sharks in the FNRLW Championship final.
