Yasawa Saints staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the favored Lami Steelers 28-14 in the semi-finals of the FNRLW (Fiji National Rugby League Women) Championship held at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori on Saturday.
Saints captain Sereana Nasau acknowledged the challenge of the match but emphasized their determination to win and secure a place in the final. The former Fiji Pearls netballer was emotional at the final whistle, reflecting on the team’s achievement.
“Thanks to the players and supporters who came out in full force,” Nasau stated. “We anticipated a tough second half but knew we had to push through.”
She added that the team is focused and ready to make history, as this will be her first experience in a rugby league final. “This moment will be unforgettable,” she expressed.
Despite the victory, Nasau recognized that there were areas needing improvement. “We have key aspects to work on, but we will enjoy this win and prepare for the final,” she noted.
The Yasawa Saints displayed a strong defense and offensive strategy throughout the game. Nasau dedicated the win to their supporters, acknowledging the hard work and commitment of their entire team.
The Saints will now face the Police Sharks in the championship final.
