Yasawa Saints staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the favored Lami Steelers 28-14 in the semi-finals of the FNRLW (Fiji National Rugby League Women) Championship held at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori on Saturday.
Captain Sereana Nasau expressed her emotions after the victory, acknowledging the tough match ahead of them, but affirming their goal was to secure a place in the final. The former Fiji Pearls netball player was moved to tears as the final whistle blew.
“Credit to the players and the supporters who turned out in great numbers,” Nasau stated. She recognized the challenge of playing catch-up rugby in the second half but emphasized their determination to succeed.
Nasau also noted that while they celebrated the win, their journey was not over. “We are just one step away from making history. I’ve never played in a rugby league final; this will be a moment to remember,” she added.
She acknowledged that despite the victory, there are areas for improvement. “There are key aspects we need to work on, but we will enjoy this win today and then prepare for the final,” Nasau said.
The Yasawa Saints showed a strong performance, demonstrating both defensive and offensive prowess throughout the match. Nasau dedicated their win to all their supporters, highlighting that the success was a result of the team’s hard work, dedication, and the loyal backing of their fans.
The Saints are set to face the Police Sharks in the championship final.
