The Yaro Chiefs have officially secured their place in the 2026 McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s, following a thrilling 22-19 victory against Yalovata in the quarter-finals on Saturday. The match was a nail-biter, with both teams exhibiting tremendous skill and determination throughout the game.
Coach Paula Karatu praised his players for their exceptional effort and noted their dedication over the past year that led to this hard-earned win. “The boys deserve this win, they have been working hard throughout the year to get this well-deserved win,” Karatu stated, reflecting on the incredible performance displayed on the field.
Highlighting the competitive nature of the upcoming tournament, Karatu acknowledged that participating in the Coral Coast 7s would present significant challenges. “It was a great game; the boys tested themselves. We know participating in the Coral Coast 7s won’t be an easy task, but we will be looking forward,” he added.
Three standout players from the Malolo team, Tomasi Tawake, Isaia Rugu, and Esala Nalobo, made notable contributions during the match, showcasing their talent and commitment. However, Coach Karatu emphasized the importance of team effort, expressing pride in the collective performance of all players involved.
Qualifying for the Coral Coast Fiji 7s was a primary objective for the Yaro Chiefs, and with this milestone achieved, the team plans to celebrate before shifting their focus back to preparations for the competition. “It was our aim to qualify for the Coral Coast 7s, so now we will celebrate then get back to the drawing board ahead of the competition,” Karatu mentioned.

The other teams that have qualified for the tournament include Wardens, Dominion Brothers, Ravuka Sharks, Devo Babas, Police Blue, and Uso Tasi. As the Yaro Chiefs prepare for this exciting opportunity, the collective support and efforts of the community are sure to propel them towards success.
