The WOWS Kids Foundation achieved remarkable success at its Christmas Gala fundraising event on Saturday, raising a substantial $28,000. This vital funding will aid the foundation’s continuous efforts in offering resources and assistance to children in Fiji who are fighting cancer.
During her address at the gala, founding director Sina Kami expressed heartfelt thanks to all the attendees whose contributions made the event possible. She emphasized that every donation, regardless of size, plays an essential role in the foundation’s mission.
Reflecting on the organization’s 17-year journey, Ms. Kami shared both the struggles and triumphs the foundation has faced, poignantly noting, “We lost one girl and a daughter, but we gained so many.” She reaffirmed that the foundation’s accomplishments stem not just from the founders but also from a dedicated and passionate team of leaders and board members. “We are the eyes, hands, legs, and heart that beats for our children,” she remarked.
A significant topic of discussion at the event was the foundation’s aims to enhance the facilities at its resource center. Ms. Kami stated that the current center is inadequate for hosting larger community events, such as family fun days. Consequently, the foundation is seeking government assistance in acquiring a larger parcel of land to construct an improved resource center for the children of Fiji. She mentioned, “We have approached the government and the ministry, asking for land, not for us but to build a better resource center for the children of Fiji.”
The successful fundraising event and the ongoing initiatives underscore the power of community support and highlight a hopeful future for the children battling cancer in Fiji. The efforts of the WOWS Kids Foundation continue to inspire hope and compassion, demonstrating that together, positive change is possible.
