Twenty recycling bins have recently been distributed to various communities in Serua Province as part of an initiative to improve waste management and combat climate-related challenges. This effort includes the delivery of eight bins to Nabukelevu Village and two bins to Nabukelevu District School. Additionally, five bins each were allocated to Naboutini Village and Nakorovou Village.
This significant handover ceremony coincided with World Wetlands Day, which was celebrated in Nabukelevu. The Ministry of Environment also took this opportunity to donate school supplies to Nabukelevu District School, enhancing the educational resources available to students.
Lynda Tabuya, the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, along with Kanbar Hossein-Bor, the British High Commissioner to Fiji, oversaw the official handover of the bins and the school items. During the event, Tabuya emphasized the critical role that students play in protecting the environment, encouraging them to dispose of waste responsibly and adopt sustainable practices.
The school staff expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the government’s support, noting that the supplies will benefit over 70 students. This collaborative effort highlights the community’s commitment to environmental stewardship and education, fostering a brighter future for both the students and the environment in Serua Province.
