Referees across Fiji are actively participating in World Rugby Level 2 and Level 3 refresher courses, facilitated by the esteemed rugby referee Rasta Rasivinge, known for his extensive experience in the sport. This initiative, led by Fiji Rugby Union High Performance Referees Manager James Bolabiu, is designed to keep referees well-informed about the latest rule adjustments and advancements in rugby officiating.
Bolabiu emphasizes the importance of these courses, stating, “We want to keep our referees updated to all the latest changes to the rule book. And they are very lucky to have one of the most famous and experienced referees in the world here to teach and share his knowledge with them. This is also to prepare our referees for our domestic competitions this year.”
The refresher courses kicked off yesterday in Labasa, moved to Savusavu today, and are set to wrap up on Saturday in Suva. Engaging in such training not only enhances the skills of referees but also aims to uplift the overall quality of officiating in future domestic competitions, which is vital for the integrity and progress of rugby in Fiji.
As rugby continues to evolve, fostering a knowledgeable and well-prepared officiating body will undoubtedly contribute to the sport’s overall growth and success in the region.
