More than one million tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have been sold following the end of the Visa pre-sales phase, as announced by FIFA on Thursday. This remarkable response highlights the global excitement surrounding the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Fans from 212 countries and territories seized the opportunity to purchase tickets, with the greatest demand coming from residents of the three host nations, followed closely by fans from England, Germany, Brazil, Spain, Colombia, Argentina, and France. FIFA President Gianni Infantino celebrated this milestone, stating, “Today we celebrate surpassing the one-million-ticket mark after the Visa pre-sales, a fantastic proof that the most ambitious and inclusive FIFA World Cup ever is generating huge global excitement.”

The 2026 World Cup will be historic, featuring 48 teams and 104 matches across 16 cities, marking a significant expansion of the tournament. As anticipation builds, the first phase of public ticket sales is set to commence on October 27, offering individual match tickets along with stadium-specific and team-specific packages.

The forthcoming World Cup not only promises thrilling matches but also aims to foster unity among fans from diverse backgrounds, celebrating the sport’s ability to connect people across the globe. This event is positioned as a celebration of football that transcends competition, embodying the spirit of togetherness amidst an increasingly fragmented world. As cities prepare to welcome millions of supporters, there is an optimistic outlook that the 2026 World Cup will resonate with fans on both local and international levels, reinforcing the powerful community and joy that football brings to its followers.
