Two businesses have been awarded for their sustainable operational practices at the inaugural Women Invigorating the Nation Convention 2025 (WIN 2025) Green Star Awards held at the Grand Pacific Hotel. Tikosaya Ledua of Ledua Art Collections and Shajit Bala of Be Pro Marketing Fiji were the first recipients of this recognition, established by the Women Entrepreneurs Business Council (WEBC) as part of their initiative to foster sustainable practices within local businesses.
Sharyne Fong, chairperson of the WIN organizing committee, shared insights during an interview, explaining that the idea for the Green Star Awards stemmed from the implementation of a green policy initiated by the WEBC. In 2023, the organization focused on establishing benchmarks for sustainable business practices. By 2024, they saw the need to recognize those member businesses already excelling in sustainability.
Ledua expressed heartfelt gratitude for the award, emphasizing the importance of community and support in her journey. “This is a huge milestone for a small business like myself, and I am really grateful to FCEF for creating a platform such as this,” she stated. The recognition not only highlights her business’s achievements but also provides valuable networking opportunities to foster growth.
This event aligns with the growing trend of sustainability within the Fijian business landscape. Recently, Ledua has been making headlines for her ambition to establish Fiji’s first upcycling hub, which is set to empower women through education and engagement in sustainable practices. Following her accolade, she has continued to advocate for the potential of upcycling within the region, recognizing its vast benefits for both the environment and the economy.
Overall, the triumphant recognition at the WIN 2025 event serves as a hopeful indicator of increasing support for sustainable business practices and the vital role women entrepreneurs play in enriching the local economy.
