Wissa’s Injury Woes: Brentford Faces New Setback

Brentford forward Yoane Wissa is expected to be out for a couple of months due to an ankle injury, according to head coach Thomas Frank. The 28-year-old player from the Democratic Republic of Congo sustained the injury during the 2-1 loss to Manchester City on Saturday.

Wissa made a remarkable start to the match by scoring the fastest goal of the Premier League season, netting just 22 seconds after kickoff, but City went on to win with two goals from striker Erling Haaland.

Frank shared the injury update on Brentford’s website, expressing his frustration with the news. “Wissa is, unfortunately, not good news: it looks like an injury that will be a couple of months,” he stated. He added that the team has faced many injuries previously and expressed hope that this season would be different, although he has encountered several already, including issues with Igor Thiago and Aaron Hickey.

Wissa joined Brentford from Lorient in 2021 and has had a strong start to this season, scoring three goals in four Premier League matches. Brentford currently sits ninth in the league after winning two of their four games, having lost England striker Ivan Toney to Al-Ahli in the summer transfer window.

Frank praised Wissa’s contributions, noting, “He’s just been very important for us and that’s going to leave a hole. But, again, I will find a solution.” The team will face League One side Leyton Orient in the League Cup on Tuesday.
