Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has once again urged parents and guardians in Fiji to utilize the $200 government assistance specifically for back-to-school preparations for their children. This appeal was made during the launch of the new Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) online application system held in Suva.

According to Minister Radrodro, this financial support is designed to assist families in equipping their children for the 2025 academic year. He stated, “The $200 is to provide assistance for parents and guardians in terms of preparing their children to start with their 2025 academic journey,” emphasizing the necessity of using the funds solely for school-related expenses.

Echoing his sentiments, Finance Minister Biman Prasad highlighted the importance of responsible spending, stating that this assistance is part of the government’s response to the rising costs and financial challenges many families have faced since the pandemic. This initiative primarily targets households with an annual income below $50,000, supporting around 200,000 students each year, at a cost of approximately $130 million to the government.

The assistance program is particularly timely as families emerge from the holiday season, where they need to purchase essential items such as uniforms, books, and stationery. The government’s commitment to education is further underlined by this financial support, which not only alleviates immediate financial burdens but also promotes overall educational readiness.

As the new school year approaches, the financial aid represents a positive step for families, fostering an environment where students can return to school well-prepared to engage in their learning journey. This proactive government strategy signals a hopeful commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for all, paving the way for a brighter future for students across Fiji.

In summary, the initiative is a significant effort to ensure that families are supported during a critical time, reflecting a broader commitment to fostering educational success within the community.
