William Cross College is well-represented with approximately 55 athletes participating in the Suva Zone One Athletics competition at the HFC Bank Stadium. Head coach Mataiasi Dabenaise emphasized the team’s focus on middle-distance events, especially the 800 and 400 meters, where they feel confident about their strengths.

Dabenaise highlighted that many of the athletes are competing for the first time, making exposure a key objective in preparation for the Fiji Finals. “Our main goal is to get the exposure we need for the Fiji Finals, as most of our athletes are competing for the first time ever. But we’re hoping to collect medals in the middle-distance events,” he stated.

The coach expressed gratitude towards the parents and the community for their support in preparing essential items for the athletes. This nurturing approach underlines the importance of community involvement in promoting sports and encouraging youth participation.

The Suva Zone One competition, along with similar events occurring across Fiji, is designed to elevate the competitive spirit among young athletes. Viewers can catch all the action live on FBC Sports, further promoting engagement with the sport. This event not only serves as an opportunity for competition but also a platform for community support and growth in athletics.
