“Will the Luxury Hangar at COMO Laucala Island Ever Open?”

Sources close to the development of the multi-million-dollar hangar project at COMO Laucala Island indicate that it may require a ‘miracle’ for it to open within the next two months. However, once completed, it is expected to boost employment opportunities at COMO Laucala Island.

The tourism operator’s project in Nadi has seen several “Coming Soon” announcements during its inconsistent construction period. While the luxury lounge at Nadi International Airport is operational, the hangar is anticipated to be finished by the year’s end.

The new hangar at Nadi airport will facilitate a seamless transfer experience for guests traveling to and from Kokomo Private Island. COMO Laucala Island explained that international flight arrivals will be welcomed at the information desk in the arrivals hall and then escorted to the luxury lounge, which offers refreshments, entertainment, family playrooms, and shower facilities for travelers needing to refresh after long flights. Departing guests will also enjoy the lounge while waiting for their connecting flights out of Fiji.

The delay in the hangar’s opening has been attributed to the need to replace a section of the connecting apron, which was installed with an incorrect mix of concrete.

Here is a timeline of key events in the project:

2019: Announcement of COMO Laucala Island’s $45 million luxury lounge and hangar facility.
2022: Construction at the Nadi project site halted.
2023: Stop order lifted.

Laucala Island is recognized as a destination for affluent travelers, according to Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica, who noted that last year’s delays were due to challenges in attracting investors. COMO Laucala Island is a private resort in Fiji that features an airstrip for private aircraft and 25 luxury villas, along with three aircraft that have been in operation for several years.
