Former Australian footballer Luke Wilkshire and his wife Kristina recently arrived in Fiji for the Extra Supermarket Fiji FA Awards Night, scheduled for this Sunday at the Crowne Plaza in Nadi. Wilkshire expressed his excitement about returning to Fiji after many years, recalling his last visit as a young boy around seven or eight years old. This trip marks his wife’s first experience in Fiji, and both are eager for the events of the coming days.

During his visit, Wilkshire acknowledged the noticeable growth of football in Fiji and the Oceania region. He specifically lauded players like Leroy Jennings, whom he has coached, for their contributions to the national team. “It’s great to see the passion for football here. Hopefully, in the coming years, younger generations will continue to be inspired to play and develop their skills,” he remarked.

Furthermore, Wilkshire encouraged young Fijians to chase their football aspirations. He stated, “Fall in love with the game and dream big. Football opens doors to endless possibilities.” Reflecting on his own journey, he mentioned how the sport has taken him around the globe.

As he anticipates the awards night, Wilkshire expressed his gratitude for the chance to participate in the event. “I’m looking forward to the awards night and celebrating the sport with everyone here. It’s a privilege to see how football is growing in Fiji and to be part of this journey,” he noted.

The Fiji FA Awards Night aims to recognize outstanding players, officials, and teams for their contributions to Fijian football over the past year.

This event not only highlights the growing enthusiasm for football in Fiji but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring athletes, reinforcing the notion that with dedication and passion, dreams can indeed come true.
