“Why the World Could Use a Lesson from Fiji”

Indian President Droupadi Murmu has stated that “the rest of the world has so much to learn from Fiji.” While addressing the Fijian Parliament on Tuesday, she highlighted the unique aspects of Fijian culture, emphasizing the gentle way of life, the respect for traditions, and the multicultural environment that make Fiji stand out in a world often fraught with conflict.

Murmu remarked, “No wonder, Fiji is the place where the rest of the world comes to find its happiness.” She acknowledged Fiji’s expanding role on the global stage, particularly in addressing critical issues such as climate change and human conflicts.

“Whether it is shaping the global dialogue on climate change or voicing the concerns of Ocean States, Fiji has made significant contributions to the global good,” she said, expressing India’s appreciation for Fiji’s increased involvement internationally.

Additionally, she commended Fiji’s substantial efforts in global peacekeeping in some of the most precarious conflict zones across the globe, stating, “We salute Fiji’s contribution in making the world a better place to live.”

President Murmu’s visit to Fiji lasted two days and included a tour of the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple in Nadi.
