Carpenters Fiji Limited’s managing director, Daniel Whippy, is awaiting approval for his visa application, as confirmed by his lawyer, Suruj Sharma, during a court session yesterday. Whippy, who faces allegations of abuse of office, seeks a modification of his bail conditions to obtain urgent medical treatment in the United States. He requires a critical stem cell surgery for his knee, which is only accessible in the U.S. and India.
Sharma informed the Suva Magistrate’s Court that the processing delays at the embassy are impacting their applications and have postponed their interview, which is now scheduled for November 26 at 8 a.m. Consequently, Sharma requested a new court mention date, which Magistrate Sufia Hamza set for November 29, assuring that Whippy’s case will be prioritized that day. In the meantime, Whippy’s bail has been extended.
This situation reflects the challenges that individuals may face when dealing with legal and medical issues, especially when international travel is involved. It highlights the importance of timely medical interventions and immigration processing, which are critical for those needing urgent care.
Overall, the hope remains that Whippy will secure the necessary treatment soon, paving the way for improved health and potentially resolving his ongoing legal challenges.
