Anthony Miller has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of Westpac, taking over from the outgoing CEO Peter King this December. Miller has been with Westpac since 2020 and has previously led the Institutional Bank as well as the Business & Wealth divisions.
Westpac’s Chairman, Steven Gregg, highlighted Miller’s emphasis on customer service, proven performance record, and deep knowledge of the Australian market as significant factors in his selection. Gregg noted that promoting from within will facilitate a seamless transition for the organization.
Miller, who has served as CEO of Deutsche Bank Australia/New Zealand and has a background with Goldman Sachs, brings extensive experience in investment banking alongside a solid understanding of retail banking requirements. He aims to build on the foundation laid by King and further unlock Westpac’s potential.
Peter King, who has steered Westpac through a major restructuring and transformation, is recognized for implementing crucial risk management reforms, simplifying the bank’s operations, and enhancing customer protection and digital offerings. King has expressed support for Miller, praising his preparedness to assume the CEO position.
