Westpac’s New Era: Meet the CEO Set to Transform the Bank

Anthony Miller has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of Westpac, effective December, taking over from outgoing CEO Peter King.

In an announcement, Westpac Bank noted that Miller, who joined the bank in 2020, previously managed the Institutional Bank as well as the Business and Wealth divisions.

Chairman Steven Gregg highlighted Miller’s customer-centric approach, track record of performance, and deep understanding of the Australian market as pivotal factors in his selection for the role.

Gregg emphasized that Miller’s promotion from within the organization would facilitate a seamless transition.

Miller, who has previously served as CEO of Deutsche Bank Australia and New Zealand, and has a tenure at Goldman Sachs, brings a wealth of experience in investment banking alongside a strong awareness of retail banking requirements.

His agenda includes building upon King’s legacy and maximizing Westpac’s growth potential.

Outgoing CEO Peter King, who has overseen a significant restructuring and transformation of Westpac, is recognized for implementing a comprehensive risk management strategy, streamlining bank operations, and enhancing customer protection as well as digital offerings.

King, who previously appointed Miller, has expressed his confidence in his successor’s capabilities and readiness to take on the CEO position.
