Anthony Miller has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of Westpac, starting in December and taking over from outgoing CEO Peter King.
Westpac Bank announced that Miller joined the organization in 2020 and formerly headed the Institutional Bank and Business & Wealth divisions.
Chairman Steven Gregg highlighted Miller’s customer-centric approach, proven performance, and deep understanding of the Australian market as crucial factors in his selection. He emphasized that appointing a leader from within would facilitate a smooth transition.
Miller has a diverse background, having previously served as CEO of Deutsche Bank Australia/NZ and gained experience at Goldman Sachs, equipping him with extensive knowledge of investment banking along with insights into retail banking demands.
He aims to build on King’s successes and further unlock Westpac’s potential.
Peter King, who has guided Westpac through significant changes, is recognized for implementing comprehensive risk management reforms, streamlining bank operations, and enhancing customer protection and digital offerings. King, who recruited Miller, expresses confidence in his successor’s preparedness for the CEO position.
