Anthony Miller has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of Westpac, scheduled to take over in December from the outgoing CEO, Peter King.
Westpac announced in a statement that Miller, who started with the bank in 2020, previously managed the Institutional Bank and Business & Wealth divisions.
Chairman Steven Gregg highlighted Miller’s strong focus on customers, proven performance, and deep understanding of the Australian market as major factors in his selection. He emphasized that Miller’s promotion from within the organization will facilitate a smooth transition.
Miller brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as the CEO of Deutsche Bank Australia/New Zealand and previously working at Goldman Sachs, showcasing a robust background in investment banking while being attuned to the needs of retail banking customers.
He aims to advance the accomplishments of his predecessor, King, and unlock further potential for Westpac.
Outgoing CEO Peter King is recognized for leading Westpac through a significant transformation, including an extensive overhaul of risk management, streamlining bank operations, and enhancing customer protection and digital offerings. King, who hired Miller, has endorsed his successor and commended his preparedness for the CEO position.
