Westpac Welcomes New CEO: What’s Next for the Banking Giant?

Anthony Miller has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of Westpac, effective in December, taking over from outgoing CEO Peter King.

Westpac Bank announced Miller’s appointment, highlighting his prior experience leading the Institutional Bank and Business & Wealth divisions since joining the bank in 2020.

Chairman Steven Gregg pointed to Miller’s customer-centric approach, strong performance track record, and deep understanding of the Australian market as key factors behind his selection. He emphasized that promoting Miller from within will facilitate a smooth transition.

Miller brings a wealth of experience in investment banking, previously serving as CEO of Deutsche Bank Australia/New Zealand and having a robust background at Goldman Sachs, equipping him with a solid understanding of retail banking requirements.

He aims to build on the successes of his predecessor King and further unlock Westpac’s potential.

Outgoing CEO Peter King, who has steered Westpac through a major overhaul and transformation, is recognized for implementing significant changes in risk management, simplifying the bank’s operations, and enhancing customer protection and digital offerings. King, who played a role in hiring Miller, expressed his support for Miller and endorsed his readiness for the CEO position.
