Westpac Welcomes New CEO: What Changes Are Ahead?

Anthony Miller has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of Westpac, taking over in December from the outgoing CEO, Peter King.

Westpac Bank announced Miller’s appointment, noting that he joined the institution in 2020 and has previously held leadership roles in the Institutional Bank and Business & Wealth divisions.

Chairman Steven Gregg highlighted Miller’s customer-centric approach, strong performance history, and his deep understanding of the Australian market as key factors in his selection for the role. Gregg emphasized that Miller’s promotion from within the company will facilitate a seamless transition.

Miller, who previously served as the CEO of Deutsche Bank Australia and New Zealand and has experience with Goldman Sachs, brings a wealth of investment banking knowledge along with an acute awareness of retail banking requirements.

He aims to build upon King’s successes and further advance Westpac’s capabilities.

Outgoing CEO Peter King, known for steering Westpac through a substantial transformation and improvement initiatives, has been recognized for overhauling risk management, streamlining operations, and enhancing customer protection as well as digital services. King, who recruited Miller, supports his choice for the CEO position and commends his preparedness for the role.
