Westpac Launches Groundbreaking Online Financial Literacy Program for Fijians

Westpac has introduced online financial literacy training for Fijians, enabling participants to join from their homes or workplaces. This program is considered a pioneering step in the Fijian market, previously conducted in person with community groups, customers, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Westpac Fiji CEO Shane Smith highlighted the bank’s aim to utilize social media’s vast reach to connect with more Fijians, motivating them to enhance their skills in areas such as budgeting, planning, saving, and financial management throughout different life stages. “We’re proud to be one of the first banks in Fiji to explore virtual training sessions for financial literacy and encourage interested individuals to attend these free sessions,” Mr. Smith stated.

Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate along with resource materials to aid their financial journey. Prior to launching the online program, Westpac conducted an internal virtual session for staff, with over 50 employees participating.

In the nine months from October 2023 to July 2024, Westpac has facilitated free financial literacy training for nearly 6,000 Fijians. Attendees can choose between two training options: Financial First Steps for Families and Business Basics.

“This initiative reflects Westpac’s commitment to fostering sustainable business practices and economic growth in Fiji,” the bank added.
