Westpac Fiji’s Leadership Shift: Local Talent Takes Charge!

Ravikash Chand has been appointed as the new Head of Finance at Westpac Fiji, succeeding Matthew Abbott, who has been instrumental in the bank’s financial leadership. This appointment is part of a trend in recent years, where more local professionals are taking on significant roles at Fiji’s oldest bank.

In 2021, the selection of Shane Smith as Chief Executive of Westpac Fiji marked a historic moment, as he became the first Fijian to hold this position since the bank’s establishment in 1901. Smith’s appointment underscores Westpac Fiji’s commitment to nurturing local talent and strengthening its ties with the community.

With his extensive experience within the bank and a thorough understanding of local market dynamics, Smith is positioned to lead Westpac Fiji toward sustained growth and innovation. Earlier this year, Dinesh Kumar was also appointed as Head of Retail, bringing over 15 years of experience in the financial sector, with 13 years specifically in banking.

Smith emphasized that these changes demonstrate Westpac’s commitment to continuity, fostering local leadership, and maintaining their position at the forefront of financial excellence in Fiji. He expressed optimism about the promising opportunities ahead for both employees and customers. As Westpac Fiji enters this new chapter, the bank remains focused on delivering outstanding banking services and contributing to Fiji’s economic development, with Chand’s appointment reflecting a continued dedication to leadership, innovation, and community engagement.
