Westpac Fiji Embraces Local Talent with New Finance Chief

Ravikash Chand has been appointed as the new Head of Finance for Westpac Fiji, taking over from Matthew Abbott, who played a vital role in the bank’s financial leadership. This appointment is part of a trend in recent years where more local professionals are being appointed to significant positions within Fiji’s oldest bank.

In 2021, Westpac Fiji reached a landmark moment when Shane Smith was named Chief Executive, marking him as the first Fijian to lead the bank since its establishment in 1901. Smith’s hiring signifies a commitment to nurturing local talent and strengthening ties with the community. His vast experience with Westpac and understanding of local market conditions uniquely position him to guide the bank towards future growth and innovation.

Earlier this year, Dinesh Kumar, another local, was appointed Head of Retail. With over 15 years of experience in the financial sector, including 13 years in banking, Kumar brings valuable expertise to his role.

“These changes demonstrate Westpac’s dedication to continuity, fostering local leadership, and maintaining our position at the forefront of financial excellence in Fiji. We are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for our people and customers,” Smith stated. He further emphasized that as Westpac Fiji enters this new chapter, the bank remains committed to delivering exceptional banking services and contributing to Fiji’s economic development. Chand’s appointment reinforces the bank’s ongoing focus on leadership, innovation, and community engagement.
