Ravikash Chand has been appointed as the new Head of Finance for Westpac Fiji, succeeding Matthew Abbott, who significantly contributed to the bank’s financial leadership. This appointment is part of a trend in recent years where more local professionals are stepping into key positions at Fiji’s oldest bank.
In 2021, Shane Smith made history when he became the first Fijian to hold the position of Chief Executive at Westpac Fiji since its establishment in 1901. Smith’s appointment signifies the bank’s commitment to nurturing local talent and strengthening its ties with the community. With his extensive experience and understanding of the local market, Smith is well-positioned to guide Westpac Fiji towards future growth and innovation.
Additionally, earlier this year, Dinesh Kumar was named Head of Retail. Kumar brings over 15 years of experience in the financial sector, with 13 years spent in banking.
Smith stated, “These changes reflect Westpac’s commitment to continuity, fostering local leadership, and ensuring that we remain at the forefront of financial excellence in Fiji. We look forward to the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for our people and customers.” He emphasized that as Westpac Fiji enters this new phase, the bank continues to focus on delivering outstanding banking services and supporting the economic development of Fiji. Chand’s appointment highlights the bank’s dedication to leadership, innovation, and community involvement.
