Ravikash Chand has been appointed as the new Head of Finance for Westpac Fiji. He takes over from Matthew Abbott, who significantly contributed to the bank’s financial leadership.
Chand’s appointment is part of a trend in recent years that has seen a greater number of local professionals assuming key positions at Fiji’s oldest bank. Notably, in 2021, Shane Smith made history as the first Fijian to serve as the Chief Executive of Westpac Fiji since its establishment in 1901.
Smith’s selection marks an important milestone, showcasing Westpac Fiji’s commitment to nurturing local talent and strengthening its ties with the community. His extensive experience within the bank and deep understanding of local market dynamics equip him to lead Westpac Fiji towards sustained growth and innovation.
Earlier this year, Dinesh Kumar was appointed as the Head of Retail. Kumar brings over 15 years of experience in the financial sector, having spent 13 of those years in banking.
“These changes reflect Westpac’s dedication to continuity, local leadership, and maintaining our position at the forefront of financial excellence in Fiji. We are excited about the future opportunities for our people and customers,” Smith stated. He emphasized that as Westpac Fiji embraces this new phase, the bank remains focused on delivering exceptional banking services and supporting Fiji’s economic development, with Chand’s appointment highlighting the bank’s ongoing commitment to leadership, innovation, and community involvement.
